TEHRAN - Ali Akbar Velayati, the foreign policy adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Monday that Islamic vigilance has led to the defeat of U.S. policies.

“The enemy is trying to stand against this wave which has spread all over the world,” he told the Strategic Status of Islam and Shiism session, a scientific gathering held at the International Center for Islamic Studies in Qom.
“Today the wave of Islamic awakening is increasing rapidly in the world and Islamic values are reviving,” he added.
“With the defeat of materialistic school of thoughts and materialistic values, the Islamic world is witnessing a pervasive movement and in this situation the enemy is trying to create fissures (among Muslims) in order to confront the movement,” he noted.
The former foreign minister mentioned moral depravity, a rise in criminal acts, family breakup, environmental degradation, and lack of security as the main problems of the materialistic world.
“In this situation nothing else could answer the despair felt by the people all over the world; the awakening wave of Islam has started and today we are witnessing the emergence of spirituality and belief in divine religions in the world.”
“Considering the daily progress of Islam, enemies such as the U.S., are trying to stop the movement by increasing the political, militaristic and economic pressure; they try to create divisions in Islamic countries, impose wars and topple democratically elected governments,” Velayati noted.
“The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted for the division of Iraq; it is surprising that what this issue (division of Iraq) has to do with the U.S.”
He also referred to the U.S. efforts to create divisions in Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Sudan and other Islamic countries, adding, “The U.S. is trying to implement a plan similar to what it has been trying for Iraq; it is through such means that the U.S. is trying to confront the awakening wave of Islam.
